Lake Shadow: Natural Look Lake Dye

Dyofix’s natural look lake dye Lake Shadow was created specifically for use in a lake that formed part of a Grade 1 listed landscape.

The award-winning head gardener was concerned that our blue lake dye would make the lake appear unnatural and artificial and would not be convinced otherwise. This inspired us to create a special blend of the three primary colours, red, yellow and blue to give the illusion that no colour has been applied.

Lake Shadow creates an artificial shadow within the water to halt light from reaching the bottom, which in turn will inhibit or halt any growth of algae and submerged aquatic weeds.

Just 1 Kg will treat 4 million litres

Dyofix Lake Shadow is supplied in 1 Kg boxes containing cold water soluble sachets or we also supply a newly introduced 200g sachet.

The individual sachets ensure even distribution in larger lakes and the potential of treating smaller ponds with minimum mess. One kilogram box will treat up to 4 million litres of lake water.

Lake Shadow is eco-friendly

Free from herbicides, pesticides and algaecides, the natural look lake dye will prevent an excess of nitrogen which (if unchecked) can result in an algal bloom where algae reproduce in record numbers. Algal blooms are known to be harmful to other pond life, both other plants and fish. With Lake Shadow you are left with a wild-life friendly, natural looking pond for you and your family to enjoy.

Lake Shadow Powder Sachets

By supplying powders in water soluble sachets it is easy to calculate the number required to dose a lake or pond.

In large lakes, if a boat is being used, simply drop sachets in different areas where they will dissolve releasing the Lake Shadow. By spreading the area, the time taken for the Lake Shadow to fully mix with the water is reduced.

Using sachets where a boat is not available. Facing the water with a breeze coming from behind, drop a few sachets along the edge and throw the others into the water. The breeze will move the water and Lake Shadow will dissolve and mix in quite freely.

Lake Shadow will fully mix with all of the water using this method but may take a little longer.

Top Ups

To maintain the level of DyoFix in the water, as a general guide, add 10% of the original dose monthly.

The first application should be made in early Spring.

Lake Shadow Powder 200g sachet

Each 200g water soluble powder dye will treat 800,000L of water.

But what can you do if you only need to treat 400,000L of water?

WE STRONGLY ADVISE NOT TO CUT OPEN THE SACHET
Hands and clothing are likely to become stained.

A simple way to divide the quantity of dye

1. Put 8L of water into a watering can
2. Place the 200g sachet and stir till fully dissolved
3. Pour carefully into 1L or 2L bottles
   • 1L treats 100,000L
   • 2L treats 200,000L
4. Fully secure tops
5. Use initial quantity
6. Store remainder for top-ups

Hints & Tips:
If the bottles have been standing for a long time, give them a shake before using.
It is useful to label the bottles so you will know what is inside and how much pond water each will treat

Reference Samples

If reference samples are desired, it is suggested that these should be taken at least a week after the initial application. Samples should be in clear containers with a secure lid, labelled with the date and location and stored in a dark place. An initial comparison to tap water will show the amount of colour present in the water.
